A leader of ruling Awami League barred acting upazila chairman marking her as Jamat activist from paying tribute at Shaheed Minar in Patharghata of Barguna.
Local sources said Mariam Begum Jebu, vice chairman and acting chairman of Patharghata upazila parishad went to give flower wreath on behalf of the upazila parishad at the early hour of Friday.
At that time upazila AL secretary Alamgir Hossain barred her from giving floral wreath on the Shaheed Minar. Later a peon of the upazila parishad put the flower on the Shaheed Minar.
AL leader Alamgir Hossain claimed Mariam Bugum Jebu was a Jamaat activist and so from the viewpoint of pro-liberation sensations, he barred her from going to the alter of the Shaeed Minar and putting floral wreath on that.
Jebu said she was not a Jamaat activist and an advisor of upazila BNP and former president of upazila Mahila Dal.
I was barred from giving floral wreath on the Shaheed Minar due to political rivalry with ruling party and following Islamic dress and religious codes.
Later Dipak, a peon of the upazila lan office , put the floral wreath on the Shaheed Minar on behalf of the UZP, Mariam added.
Shakhawat Hossain, Patharghata upazila nirbahi officer, said he heard about the incident, but none file allegation in this connection.
