Indian HC inaugurated sinking deep-tube-well in Barguna

Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh on Sunday noon inaugurated a deep-tube-well sinking programme with the grants of Indian government at Baroitala Ferry Ghat of Barguna.

He also said that opening of Indian Visa Center at Barisal is under consideration and will talk to Indian government official about speedy return or release of detained Bangladeshi fishermen.

Pankaj Saran, High Commissioner, accompanied by Sujit Ghosh, first secretary (Political & Information), R. Masakui, first secretary (Economic & Projects) on helicopter reached at Barguna Circuit House at about 1:00 pm.

There the Indian diplomats were welcomed by Dhirendra Debnath Sambhu, local AL lawmaker, Jahangir Kabir, Zila Parishad administrator, Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan, deputy commissioner, Samayal Kumar Nag, district police superintendent Barguna.

From there the team went to the tube-well sinking spot at Baroitala Ferry Ghat under Dhalua union of Sadar upazila.

There the Honourable Indian High Commissioner unveiling the screen of the foundation-board inaugurated the sinking of two-hundred deep-tube-wells in Sadar, Amtali, Taltali , three upazilas of coastal Barguna district at the cost of Tk. 1.96 core from Indian government grants.

Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan, the DC Barguna, presided a meeting with the local elites held on this occasion at that spot.

The Indian High Commissioner delivering speech on this occasion said Bangladesh is a close friend of India and so Indian government also happy to work for welfare of Bangdashi people.

If proposals would be given then Indian government will also extend their hands for cooperation to develop, education, drinking water supply. health and sanitation facilities for the ultra-poor peoples of the region, he added.

The High Commissioner of India also told Barguna district attracted him. Opening of an Indian Visa Center at Barisal is under consideration to make travel to India easy and hassle-free for the people of this region.

Answering questions of journalists about long detention of the coastal fishermen in the Indian jails for unwilling crossing the maritime boundary, the high commissioner said it was a humanitarian issue and assured to talk with concerned Indian government officials to consider speedy return and release of Bangladeshi fishermen from India if they mistakenly crosses Indian maritime boundary and detained.

Among others Dhirendra Debnath Sambhu, local AL lawmaker, Jahangir Kabir, Zila Parishad administrator, Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan, deputy commissioner, Samayal Kumar Nag, district police superintendent, Sohel Hafiz, secretary Barguna Press Club, Khalek Dafadar, local elite.

They thanked the Indian government for extending their hands of cooperation to the natural calamity and climate-change affected people of the coastal region.
