Newly elected BNP backed chairman sent to jail
Anisur Rahman Swapan

A court in Pirojpur on Tuesday rejecting bail prayer ordered the newly elected BNP backed Nazirpur upazila chairman to send jail as an accused of political violence.

Local sources said Nazrul Islam Khan, as BNP backed candidate contested in Nazirpur UZP on February 27, 2014 for chairman post while he was detained in jail as an accused in a case of political violence.

Nazrul was elected chairman from jail by defeating AL backed candidate Abdul Malek.

After getting bail in that case he took oath as Nazirpur UZP chairman on March 25 at the office of the divisional commissioner Barisal.

However Nazrul was one of the 88 accused in another case lodged with Nazirpur police station by Nazirpur upazila AL president Abdul Jabbar against political violence during BNP-led opposition alliance enforced Hartal of October 28, 2013.

Nazrul was granted ad-interim bail from High Court in that case and as per direction of the High Court appearing before the lower court he appealed for permanent bail on Tuesday.

However Satyabrata Shikdar, judicial magistrate of Pirojpur, rejecting the bail prayer ordered newly elected Nazirpur UZP chairman Nazrul Islam Khan to send jail.
