Tk.26.52 lakhs collected as taxes in first days of the fair

pci4wgzbThe seven-day ‘ fifth income-tax fair-2014′ organized by National Board of Revenue (NBR) going on full swing in Barisal divisional city.

The fair started at Barisal Ashiwini Kumar Hall premises on September 16 , will continue till September 22.

In the first four-day of the seven-day fair 1, 257 people submitted their income-tax return and paid Tk. 26,52,605 taxes through e-payment, said Proshanta Kumar Roy, commissioner of taxes, Barisal regional tax office.

The regional commissioner of taxes further said a total 2, 396 were received tax service from the fair in last four days. Of them 138 were received new ETIN from here till filing the report.

Bangladesh has a disproportionately low TIN holders compared to other countries, which must be increased, Proshanta Kumar Roy added.

Official source said that tax payers increased highly in Barisal in last one year. Number of tax payers were 30,580 in 2011-12 and increased to 40,082 in 2013-14.

In the current fiscal income tax collection under Barisal taxation region fixed as Tk.180 core. The income tax collection was Tk 140 core against the target of Tk. 125 core in last fiscal.

The visitors were provided with services like issuing tax identification number (TIN) for the new tax-payers, income-tax return, application form for TIN, bank booths, help desk, information center, legal advice on income tax and tax calculator software in 14 booths of the fair.

Pankaj Gupta, a petty businessman of the city said that he has paid Tk 3,000 as minimum income tax for the second time to get benefit in business-loan.

Referring to the query on why they have paid his income tax through this fair, the taxpayers said it took only 2 hours to complete the whole process of paying income tax hassle-free providing one stop service in the fair, which would take much more time in traditional way.
