Girl rescued by police in the city after binding with tree tortured for 11 hours at the house of lover

fxojdby7A teenage girl rescued by police with the help of local ward councilor in the city after she was toured by binding with tree at the courtyard of house for 11 hours pressing withdrawal of cases lodged against her lover.

Police handed over the victim to her guardians after treatment at hospital and a case lodged in this connection on Wednesday sending one accused to jail.

Human and women rights organisation although failed to response duly in time, but called a protest programme on Thursday after local media criticised their inactive role.

The accused torturer was identified as Shahadat Hossain Mithu, 20, son of Altaf Hossain alias Shahnu Haoladar at Rice Research Institute Road under ward-24 of Barisal City Corporation.

The victim was identified as Ripa Aktar, 18, daughter of Chunnu Akon from Kurulia village under Bakerganj upazila of Barisal.

Firoj Ahmed, local ward councilor, quoting victim sources, said Ripa was a worker of nearby Sonargaon Textile Mills at Rupatali area of the city.

Ripa fall in love with neighbouring youth Mithu while living in a rented house at the area three years ago.

Physical relationship was developed between the both and Mithu later denying the relationship fled to Gazipur taking a job on February, 2014 when Ripa pressed him for marriage.

Ripa chasing Mithu went Gazipur and also taking a job at a sweater factory there continued relationship on assurance of marrying her soon.

However after four months Mithu tried to handing over Ripa to his friends for engaging prostitution.

Joydevpur Thana police recovering Ripa sent to Gazipur Safe Home and arresting Mithu sent to jail lodging two cases of rape and unsocial activities on June 2, 2014.

Later Ripa and handed over to her family members and Mithu released on bail on September 14.

Mithu came Barisal and his family members called Ripa to their home at BRI Road on Monday night for negotiation.

They created pressure on Ripa for negotiation over withdrawing cases and ending relationship.

When Ripa denied to fulfill their demands, Mithu, his father Shanu and other accused tortured her for whole night tying with lock and chain to a tree and lamppost under open sky at the courtyard of the house from 10:00 PM Monday night and even after hearing and seeing the scene none came forward to save the victim .

On Tuesday morning at about 8:00 AM I rushed to the spot after informed through journalists and rescued the victim with the help of the police at 9:00 AM, said local ward councilor.

Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said police detained Hosneara Begum, mother of Mithu, Palash Khan, Shipon Haoladar, Md. Ripon, Abdul Huq and Delwar hossain, neighbours, for interrogation during rescuing Ripa.

Later Ripa as complainant lodged a case with on early Wednesday against five accused including her lover Shahadat Hossen Mithu, Altaf Hossain alias Shanu Haoladar, Hosneara Begum, parents of Mithu, Shamsu Khan and Rafiq Akand, two associates of Mithu.

Hosneara Begum, mother of Mithu, sent to court on Wednesday and others released after interrogation.

Metropolitan magistrate Nasrin Begum denying bail prayer sent Hosneara to jail on Wednesday afternoon, Sub Inspector Shamim Hossain, investigation officer of the case told.

Local non-government human and women rights defending organizations called a programme of human chain in the city on Thursday morning protesting the repression against Ripa and demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all the accused of the case, said Rahima Sultana Kajal, president, Barisal NGO Development Network.
