BIWTC to start 14-day special Puja-Eid services for home bound passengers with six vessels from Wednesday

barisal-map-english Barisal MapBangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will start 14-day special steamer services from Wednesday October 1 from Dhaka-end on occasion of upcoming Durga Puja and Eid Ul Azha festivals with six vessels.

The Puja-Eid special services of BIWTC vessels with regular services will continue till October 13, said M A Matin, deputy general manager ( commercial/ passenger and ferry)BIWTC.

The Dura-Puja festival of the Hindu community would be celebrated from October 1-3 and Eid Ul Azha festival of the Muslim community would be celebrated from October 5-8, 2014 and vacations would be started from October 1 and with regular weekly holidays will continue till 13, he added.

Barisal and Narayanganj BIWTC stations has been asked to provide special tug boats and piloting services and be prepared to face any emergency calls, the BIWTC official said.

BIWTC sources said six BIWTC vessels named peddle wheel steamers PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Mahsud, PS Turn, and screw wheel motor vessels MV Sela and MV Bangali would be placed to carry passengers to their respective destinations connecting Chandpur, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Hularhut of Pirojpur and Morelganj of Bagerhaat districts under this special schedule.

Every day at least one regular and one special vessel will ply to connect different destinations of the routes for the home bound Durga Puja, Eid Ul Azha passengers, said Gopal Chandra Majumdar, assistant general manager BIWTC Barisal.

Under this schedule PS Mahsud will ply on October 2, 4,8 from Dhaka, October 3 from Morelganj and October 3,6,10 from Barisal ends , PS Ostrich on October 1, 3,6,9 from Dhaka , October 2, 5 from Morelganj and October 5, 8, 11 from Barisal end, PS Lepcha on October 3, 7, 11, from Dhaka, October 4 from Hularhut and October 9, 13 from Barisal, PS Turn on October 5, 10 from Dhaka, October 12 from Morelganj and October 7 from Barisal ends.

On other hand MV Bangali will ply on Dhaka-Barisal-Dhaka route and MV Sela will ply on Chandpur-Barisal-Chandpur route almost every day from October 1 to 13.

Gopal Chandra Majumdar said except MV Bangali all other vessels will also touch Chandpur river-port and the passenger fare of BIWTC carriers would remain same on special trips as normal trips.

Tickets for cabin passengers would only be collected from Dhaka office of five vessels and for MV Bangali from Barisal office and for deck passengers from respective stations, he added.

Accordingly passengers of BIWTC vessels on 161-kilometer Dhaka-Barisal or Barisal-Dhaka route in a single trip have to pay Tk.1050 for one first class cabin seat, Tk.630 for one second class cabin seat and Tk.170 for each deck seat in comparison of Tk.1000-1100 for per first class cabin seat (equivalent to second class of steamer), Tk.600 per sofa and Tk. 230-250 per deck seat of the private launch services on the same route.

Sea trucks will connect 11 stations of coastal routes under Barisal, Bhola, Laxmipur, and Noakhali, Chittagong districts including Maju Chowdhurir Hut, Manpura, Shashiganj, Ilisha, Charchenga, Boyarchar, Hatiya, Kumira and Guptachhara.

Three coastal ships MV Monirul Huq, MV Abdul Matin and MV Baro-Awlia of BIWTC will operate under regular and Eid special services to connect different destinations under Hatiya, Sandwip, and Chittagong ports.

The additional ferry trips would also be activated on Paturia-Daulatdia, Mawa-Keorakandi, Chandpur – Shariatpur, Bhola-Lakshmipur and Laharhat-Veduria river routes on occasion of Eid Ul Azha, BIWTC sources added.
