More than 21 candidates vie for per seat of Barisal University

Barisal-UniversityAverage more than 21 candidates vie for per seat of Barisal University and intake test would be held in three shifts on October 18 for the 2014-15 academic session.

A total of 32,372 students registered for this year’s test in the university – the fourth since its establishment – against 1,535 seats, said, Faisal Mahmud Rumi, public relation officer of the university.

According to BU sources, 7,662 students applied for the 510 seats available in the departments under ‘Ka’ unit, including 80 seats in Mathematics, 80 in Chemistry, 50 in Computer Science and Engineering, 80 in Soil and Environment Science, and 80 in Botany and Crop Science, 70 in Physics and 70 in Zoology.

In the ‘Kha’ unit, 6,530 students will vie for the 490 seats available, including 70 in the Economics department, 70 in Political Science, 70 in Social Science, 70 in Public Administration, 70 in Bangla, 70 in English and 70 in Law.

The ‘Ga’ unit registered the largest number of applicants compared to other units, with 9,328 students against the 300 seats available at Management Studies (75), Marketing (75), Accounting and Information Systems (75) and Finance and Banking (75) under the business faculty.

Besides, 8,852 candidates under ‘Gha’ unit applied for the 235 seats reserved for test-takers willing to change subjects or faculties.

The test arranged at eleven different points, including the temporary and permanent campus of BU, seven government educational institutions and two private colleges in the town in three shifts as 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM for Ka and Kha units, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM for Ga, and 4:00 PM- 5:00 PM for Gha unit, informed Monirul Islam, acting registrar of BU.

“The detailed seat-plan for the applicants will be available on our website ( www. and www. barisaluniv., acting registrar of BU said.

The one-hour written test held in MCQ system with 120 marks; one must score a minimum of 48 in order to be eligible for passing intake test.

There are an additional 80 marks reserved for a candidate’s performance in his or her SSC and HSC examinations.

The result of the intake test would be published as soon as possible through the websites and notice board of the university.

The selection would be held on the basis of marks obtained from the MCQ test as well as SSC and HSC results, BU acting register said.

Classes would begin at the both temporary campus of the university on the Barisal Zilla School premises and at the currently under construction permanent campus, sprawled on a 50-acre land on the eastern bank of Kirtonkhola, Prof. Dr. Harunor Rashid, vice chancellor BU said.
