AUBT chief placed to 7-day remand in blogger Rajiv murder case

Barisal:: Recently revealed alleged Islamic militant group Ansar Ullah Bangla Team chief Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani again sent to Dhaka from Barguna on Monday night.

On other hand 9 AUBT activists remanded in Barguna and prayer against more 20 pending there.

Detective branch Inspector and investigation officer of blogger Rajiv murder case Mainul Islam placing Mufti Jasim before the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday appealed for 10-day remand.

Advocate Sohrab Hossain Molla, defense lawyer, opposing remand prayer appealed for granting bail of Mufti Jasim.

After hearing from both sides, metropolitan magistrate Harun or Rashid rejecting the bail prayer ordered to place Mufti Jasim for seven-day remand under police custody as five students of North South University, accused for killing blogger Rajib Haider, earlier confessed about visiting Mufti Jasim, court sources said.

Ansar Ullah chief Mufti Jasim after interrogated in joint interrogation cell (JIC) at Dhaka under 4-day remand was retuned to Barguna jail on Sunday.

Shaymol Kumar Nath, Barguna district police superintendent, said Mobashwer Ali, Inspector of detective branch on August 21 appealed before the court for 10-day remand against the 30-activists arrested with Ansar Ullah chief Mufti Jasim.

They were arrested from a training camp on August 12, 2013 from the house of Jasim’s brother Jalil Master at Khejurtala area of Barguna district town skirt with Jihadi books, sharp weapons, and grenade.

The chief judicial magistrate of Barguna Noman Mainuddin starting remand hearing on Sunday sanctioned 3-day remand against Yusuf Ali Mridha, 2-day remand against Abdur Rahman Matubbar and Ashraf Ali,  1-day remand against Awal Siraj and Alamgir Hossain, informed public prosecutor Advocate Bhuvan Chandra Haoladar and defense lawyer Advocates Abdul Aziz, Sekandar Ali and Siddikur Rahman.

The same court on Monday after hearing the remand prayer against another five accused granted 3-day remand against Md. Badal and Qari Abdus Salam, 1-day remand against Jamal Hossain and Abu Saleh, and rejected remand prayer against Abdul Jabbar due to his old age, the lawyers added.

The hearing for remand against rest 20 suspected Ansar Ullah activists in Barguna will continue by rotation and next date fixed on September 1, the SP Barguna said.

Sub Inspector Zafar Hossain as complainant lodged a case against the 31 arrestees under section 57 of IT act for propagating militancy and communalism on August 12 with Barguna Sadar police station.

Although Ansar Ullah chief Mufti Jasim arrested from Barguna and have native address in the district town, but he was active in Ansar Ullah activities at Dhaka, the SP Barguna told.

Mufti Jasim accused in at least two cases with Pallabi police station (case no. 40) and Uttara police station (case no. 26) of Dhaka and, police sources said.
