1’st of blockade torching vehicles blasting cocktails in Barisal

The first day of BNP-Jamaat led 18-party opposition alliance announced 48-hour blockade observed with stray incidents of ransacking and torching vehicles blasting cocktails in Barisal. BNP held rally and burnt effigy of the chief election commissioner in front of the party office after announcement of the election schedule on Monday night.

At least one private car, two auto-rickshaws at Sadar Road, one covered van and one auto-rickshaw, 2 tempo  at C and B Road were ransacked, one microbus was torched in Kashipur areas by the pro-blockade activists on Monday night to Tuesday afternoon.

Injured private car driver Monir admitted at SBMCH.

Barisal-Dhaka highway blocked by the pro-blockade picketers led by Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, lawmaker and city BNP president, at Goriar Par in Kashipur Tuesday morning.

Several cocktails were blasted at different parts of the city on Monday night to Tuesday afternoon.

Road transport operations on long routes from Nathullabad and Rupatali bus terminals remained suspended on Tuesday.

At Shanuhar under Ujirpur police station on Barisal-Dhaka highway 4 tempo and 1 three wheeler Mishuk were damaged by the pro-blockade picketers on Tuesday noon.

Movements of mechanized transports on city roads and operation of water transports were very limited due passenger crisis.

Saidur Rahman Rintu, vice president of launch owners association, said only one launch MV Kalam Khan-1 will ply on Tuesday night instead of 4-6 launches every night from Barisal port to Dhaka, due to acute passenger crisis.

Showrooms of different consumer products, big shops were closed in the morning and opened at noon.

Transaction in financial institutions presence in education institutions, and judicial, administrative offices were less than normal days in the city due to insecurities and disruption of communications.
