One sentenced to 17 years imprisonment under arms act

A trial court in Barisal on Thursday sentenced one accused to 17 years imprisonment for possessing illegal arms and ammunition’s.

The sentenced accused was Shahid Haoladar, 26, son of Idris Haoladar, of Sobhan Miar Pol area in the city.

Md Habibur Rahman, district special tribunal judge, handed down this verdict in presence of the accused after examining 8 witnesses and other evidences under two sections of arms act.

Prosecution story was a patrol team of Rapid Action Battalion on 11 August, 2011 arrested Shahid from Lakutia area of the city and searching his body recovered a pistol and 3 round ammunitions.

Abdul Halim Hazra, deputy assistant director of RAB, as complainant lodged a case under arms act on the same day with Kotwali police station.

Sub Inspector Abul Khayer submitted   charge sheet against the accused on September 18 of the same year.
