Hartal2A case has been lodged and probe-committee formed on Friday in connection of torching LPG cylinder-laden truck by the pro-blockade picketers in front of a chemical industry at Rupatali industrial area of Barisal city on early Thursday.

Barisal Kotwali police station in charge Sakhawat Hossain said S M Zakir Hosain, owner of a burnt truck (Jessore-T-11-0322), as complaint lodged the case accusing 25 unnamed people.

Sub Inspector Faisal Ahmed, investigation officer of the case, said the general diary lodged by one of the burnt truck owner on Thursday afternoon transformed to a regular criminal case (no.61) under sections 15(1) (3) of special power act and 323 and 427 of penal code on early Friday.

In the case the complainant alleged that a group of unknown picketers torching his empty truck and another LPG cylinder laden truck (Jhinaidah-T-11-0306) fully and partly damaged another empty truck causing total losses worth Tk.58 lakhs.

Police visiting the spot already started investigation and collecting evidences, the IO told.

On other hand authority of Barisal Fire Service station formed a three-member probe committee in this connection and asked to submit report within 10 working days, told station in charge Abu Yusuf.

Parimal Chandra Kundu, assistant director and acting deputy director of the station, said Ahsanul Kabir, assistant director of Patuakhali fire service and civil defense will lead the probe-team accompanied by Faruk Hossain Shikdar, sub-assistant director of Pirojpur and Abu Yunus Panna, staff officer of Barisal fire service and civil defense stations.

Mentionable Barisal was luckily spared a massive industrial disaster on Thursday late night, when three trucks –including one laden with 480 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders – were torched by pickets, at the gates of a chemical factory packed with a large stock of hydrochloric acid at Rupatali industrial area in the city.

A 30-member team of Fire Service’s Barisal station fought the fire for over one-and-a-half hour before taming it at 1:20am on Friday.

However, most of the LPG cylinders exploded and damaged and the fire rapidly spread to other vehicles parked in the adjacent areas, gutted shops and trees and people panicked by high flame and tremendous explosion sounds left the area.

The explosions also damaged structures of the chemical factory and  Fire Service authourity primarily estimated damages of properties worth Tk7m after the incident.
