More than 40 including 4 journalists njured in clash police and opposition activists

vola-hartalMore than 40 including 4 journalists and 2 police injured in clash between police and opposition activists at Bhola district town on Monday.


Police firing gunshots and teargas controlled the situation and arrested 23.


Witnesses said pro-blockade picketers of BNP-Jamaat led 18-party alliance on Monday noon damaged 10 three-wheelers and attacking procession of AL injured 5 AL activists at about 11:30 am at Suingar Hut area of the town-skirt.

Then opposition activists brought out agitation procession supporting blockade from BNP office at Mahajanpatty area in the town and police charging baton tried to disburse them.


Then the opposition activists engaged in clash with police using brick bats, sticks and blasting cocktails.


The clash spread at Sadar Road, Western Para, and Circular Road and other areas and police charged baton on innocent peoples entering inside the houses and shops and creating panic among the citizens.


Samoy TV cameraperson Utpal, Independent TV cameraperson Biplob were beaten and injured and their cameras were damaged and other two journalists were assaulted by police while they tried to take shots of police torture and attacks, the journalists alleged.


Police firing 45 rounds teargas shells and 65 rounds gunshots and arresting five from the spot controlled the situation and two cops were injured by the brick bats, said Md. Maniruzzaman, Bhola district police superintendent.


At least 40 including Faruk Mia, secretary, Harunur Rashid Truman  , joint secretary of district BNP, Humaun Kabir Sopan, municipal councilor, Md. Helal, secretary, Tarikul Islam Kaed, Kabir Hossain, vice presidents of district Jubo Dal, Khandokar Al Amin, president, Mizanur Rahman, secretary of district JCD, Md. Mamun, vice president of municipal JCD, Belal Patwari, Rahman, Shaon, Ujjal, activists of BNP were injured and  23 people including a Mercantile Bank staff were arrested by police, BNP sources claimed.


Most of the injured taking treatment in hiding to avoid police harassments, sources claimed.
