BCC evicted signboards written in English and mixed language

Barisal City Corporation evicted signboards, billboards, polysigns, banner, festoons written in English or mixed languages on Wednesday. Jahangir Molla, sanitary inspector BCC, said Imtiaj Ahmed Jewel, executive magistrate of BCC led the drives as per direction of higher court to remove signboards written in English or mixed languages. In the drive operated on July 23, 2014 BCC evicted more than 13 signboards from different areas of the city including Police Line to Kakoli More of Sadar Road. Owners of the shops also fined total Tk. 10,300 for violating the direction of the court. However total 15 drives were operated from June 2014...

Thirteen-day Eid special launch service on Barisal-Dhaka -Barisal route with 12 vessels arranged by private vessel owners executing 20-25 percent increased ‘festival fare’ chart in comparison of the normal period. Saidur Rahman Rintu , AL leader, owner of triple-deck ‘Sundarban’ launch fleet and central vice president of launch owners association, said normally 4-5 triple deck launches placed for trip on each day from Dhaka and Barisal. It would be increased to 7 vessels from Dhaka-end on Thursday July 24 and 12-vessels from Dhaka-end on Saturday July 26 by giving double trip. Same procedure will repeat from Barisal end...

BCC announces ambitious budget of Tk. 407.88 crore

Barisal City Corporation on Tuesday placed a ‘highly ambitious’ Tk. 407,88,94,975 budget for 2014-15 fiscal without imposing fresh or increasing previous tax rates against the revised budget of only Tk 142,29,93,975 against Tk 381,16,10,413 of 2013-14 fiscal. The proposed budget has an own income source of only Tk 99.06 core, which would be spent for establishment cost and rest Tk.308.82 core expected from government and non-government allocations for implementations of development projects. Ahsan Habib Kamal, BCC Mayor, after getting approval of the councilors at morning announced the twelfth budget of BCC at the ‘Nagar Bhavan’ conference...

Janata Bank officials threatened by ultra-left extortionist

Officials of different branches of state-owned Janata Bank have been threatened by ultra-left extortionists demanding toll on Tuesday. Janata Bank officials started filing general diaries with concerned police stations on this issue. Barisal road accident death toll increased to Eleven

AKM Ehsan Ullah, Barisal district police superintendent, Sudipta Sarkar ,additional SP , Anwar Hossain, OC Wajirpur PS confirmed the death toll as eleven after visiting the spot. Among them one killed at the spot, three at Wajirppur upazila health complex, seven at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, the police officials said. Bus plunged to bazaar: 6 killed 20 injured

A coach of Hanif Paribahon coming from Dhaka plunged to roadside bazaar and then fell ditch on Barisal-Dhaka highway at Ichhladi under Wazirpur police station of Barisal on Friday late afternoon. The accident happened after driver loosing control over the vehicle (Dhaka-metro-ba-14-0598) plunged to roadside bazzar and then fell to ditch at the slop of Major M A Jalil Bridge of Sandhya River at about 5:50 PM Friday. Anwar Hossain, officer in charge Wazirpur police station from the spot, said at least six people of the bazaar died and 20 others including local people and bus passengers reported to be injured and sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical...

Drug peddler with 6,600 pieces of Yaba arrested in Gournadi

Police arrested a drug-peddler with 6,600 pieces of Yaba tablets from Kheyaghat areas in Gournadi municipal town of Barisal district on Thursday noon. The arrested drug peddler was identified as Isarul Molla, son of Shahjahan Molla from Sakarpar under Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district.
