Obituary: Umme Kulsum

Umme Kulsum, mother of 71-TV camera person Jasimudddin, died on Saturday morning at her residence ‘Nivrito Niloy’ in Baptist Mission Road of the city, She was 65, and suffering from diabetic and other diseases. Umme Kulsum left husband, 4 sons, 3 daughters and a lot of relatives. She was laid to rest at Tablig Markaj Gorosthan after Namaj E Janaja there following Asar prayer on Saturday afternoon. Local journalists, lawmakers, upazila chairman and people from different sections rushed to the house of Umme Kulsum hearing death news and attended her Janaja and burial function. At least 17 people including 14 students, 1 teacher of Barisal University, 2 cops injured, 4 transports damaged in clashes after students blocked highways for 2nd day on Thursday protesting assault by transport workers denying stoppage at BU campus gate at Karnakathi on eastern bank of Kirtankhola River. At least 11 school boys, headmaster and a teacher sustained minor injuries in clashes between two groups of students over smoking at the Gournadi pilot secondary school campus in Gournadi upazila town of Barisal Thursday noon. Barisal visit of Prime Minister cancelled

The tour programme of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Barisal scheduled to be held on April 24, declared as cancelled. Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal, confirmed the report on Wednesday afternoon. Agitated students of Barisal University Wednesday noon protesting assault of a fellow student by transport workers blocked highways near BU campus at Karnakathi on Barisal-Bhola-Patuakhali roads and demonstrated in the city.
